Hi, my name is Steve and I am the Travelling Photographer !
I'm West Yorkshire, UK based so that's why you'll probably find more posts here about Yorkshire than anywhere else.
I'm also a sun worshipper so my preferred locations are usually warm and sunny although I do sometimes venture out in the wind, the rain and the snow, but not often.
I've always liked taking photographs, and like most photographers, I like being behind the camera rather than in front of it so It was usually myself who took the family photographs on holiday and at family events.
Around 25 years ago I bought a compact Sony digital camera that meant I could snap away a bit more freely than when using the older film cameras and I still have this camera today which is still in full working order.
I had often fancied doing more general photography and buying a real DSLR to get into photography properly, more than just just taking family snaps, but I never took the plunge with a busy work life and family life I didn't have the time for it.

At the beginning of 2017 my wife passed away and left me devastated with a big void in my life, we used to go everywhere together and now she wasn't here. I threw myself into my work and worked long hours but on my time off I was lost and days out on my own no longer had any purpose.
I was told by many that I needed a hobby and I thought back to my previous desires of taking up photography .
After much and often confusing research, I bought my first DSLR, a Nikon D3300 starter camera with a standard 18-55 kit lens.
I don't normally mention this upsetting time in my life to people unless I'm forced to as It was and still is something that I'm trying to come to terms with but here for the first time I've written it for all to see.
Back to photography, I read lots of blogs online about photography and watched many YouTube videos and took lots and lots of photos, often many blurry and poorly lit photographs with poor composition but I new the only way to get better at it was to keep going and practicing more.
After just over a year after purchasing my starter camera I though I was ready for an upgrade so went for the Nikon D500 which I usually use now to take all my photographs. It's a lot bigger and heavier than the D3300 so I still sometimes venture out with that one when I want something a bit lighter and smaller to carry around.

At the present time, I'm now learning to speak a little Spanish (Estoy aprendiendo a hablar un poco de Español) hopefully to help me on my travels after a previous visit to a little village outside of the usual tourist places in Spain where I was struggling to order a drink and I didn't have a clue what the waiter was asking me in Spanish or how to reply !
How dare he not speak English.... es una broma ! JaJaJaJa !
All the photographs shown on here are my work, all except a couple of photos of myself which my daughter has taken of me after I set the camera up for her, just to remind myself and rove to others that I was actually there.
When I visit anywhere now, even places I've been to before, I always take masses of photographs each time.
The light is often different, or there is something different about the place that I want to capture.
I often prefer to visit locations on my own because I'm not holding anyone else up as I can often stop in one spot for a long time watching , waiting, and snapping away.
