About Scarborough
Sandy beaches, the main one being South Bay which is at the bottom of the town area with the arcades, Scarborough Souvenir Shops, cafes, and a few bars stretching along the roadside here. This is the area people tend to see and recognise as Scarborough for the day trippers with the sandy beaches if its hot and sunny and the main town to visit just a short walk although it is a bit of an uphill climb to it, but there are the trams that you can take to avoid the steep climb.
The Scarborough Spa complex and quiet Seaview walks with those Scarborough Fridge Magnet views are at the right hand end of the beach if you're standing looking at the see.
The spa has a number of events and shows on through the year with a great outdoor area which is used in the summer months.
The beach in front of the Spa is often a lot quieter than the rest of Scarboroughs beaches and has the added attraction of the rock pools to go hunting crabs left behind after the tides rolls out.
Back along the tops overlooking the Spa there's some very nice and often very quiet green park areas for you to sit and watch the world go by in the distance.
This area is one of the reasons Scarborough is often called Scarbados with its lush greenery.
And along this area there are some little used, and very pleasant walks, either along down by the sea or along the green park tops taking in some great views.
Scarborough North Bay
An area of Scarborough sometimes overlooked by day trippers is North Bay area of Scarborough as it is separated by a long walk along the seafront below the cliffs from the South Bay area.
But its worth traveling up there whether you walk, drive or catch one of the open tops buses.
At North Bay there is another large Sandy beach area with rock pools at one end and views of Scarborough castle the other way.
This area of Scarborough is far less commercialised but there is still lots to do if the beach isn't your thing or the weather is the best on the day you visit.
Just a short walk from the beach is Peasholm Park, A grand park with a large boating lake and a Chinese Garden area to explore in the middle of the lake.
A few times throughout the year you'll also find model boat battle re-enactments to watch too.
And don't forget to take some food for the many many squirrels that live in the park and are very much used to people being close up to them and feeding them.
